May 13, 2010 Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital participated at the release of 56 wild falcons in Kazakhstan from 7th & 8t Category : General As part of H.H. The Late Sheikh Zayed Falcon Release Program, Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital participated on the release of 56 wild falcons in Kazakhstan on 7th & 8th May 2010. 19 Peregrine falcons (Falco peregrinus), 32 Saker falcons (Falco cherrug) and 5 Gyr falcons (Falcon rusticolus) were released in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan. 3 of the peregrine falcons, 5 of the saker falcons and 4 gyr falcons were fitted with solar powered satellite transmitters to monitor their flight paths and to gather scientific data about their survival rates. The saker falcons were released on the first day of release (7.5.10) while the peregrine and gyr falcons were released on the second day (8.5.10).
The Falcon Release Program is being conducted every year since 1995 during spring time to return these wild falcons to their original habitat in order to conserve the wild falcon population. So far, a total number of 1246 falcons have been released to the wild through this program.
